DAQ/Electrical

The acronym DAQ stands for data acquisition. This subteam makes use of various sensors, computer software, and custom-built testing stands to collect and process data from system performance. Such performance data is necessary to validate design changes as well as to verify proper functionality.

What We Do

Data acquisition mounts sensors to the car to get useful data and optimize our setup. Simulation and software simulate the car and programs anything that needs to be programmed on the car.

Application

We make sure that all of our simulations are accurate with DAQ and then act on that information to optimize the car’s performance. The DAQ system reads speed from a hall effect sensor, gearbox temperature from a K-type thermocouple, CVT temperature from a thermal imager, and vehicle motion data through accelerometers and other sensors. It sends its data to a screen for the driver, it saves the data to the onboard computer, and it transmits the data over radio signals to a computer at the trailer.
