What is Baja SAE?

Baja competition is an experience like no other. Our competition includes events both static and dynamic. The static events consist of the Marketing and sales, cost report, and design presentation. The design presentation consists of validating and going over the design and engineering of the vehicle, to real-world engineers from all forms of companies. While the cost report and marketing and sales focus on the overall cost reduction of the vehicle and as well as a business structure as if our team was a company producing many prototypes. Undoubtedly one of the best parts of competition however is the dynamic events, these consist of the acceleration, suspension and traction, braking, maneuverability, and the 4-hour endurance race. Each one of these sets out to truly test the capabilities of our vehicle. The event that culminates them all as well as sets the BAJA competition apart from another is the 4-hour endurance race which is a wheel-to-wheel race against around 100 other competitors from around the world.

In Baja SAE, engineering students are tasked with designing and building a single-seat, all-terrain sporting vehicle that is to be a prototype for a reliable, maintainable, ergonomic, and economic production vehicle that serves a recreational user market. The students must function as a team to design, engineer, build, test, promote, and compete with a vehicle within the limits of the rules.
